Several branches of scientific
knowledge are found in Buddhism
Dear my little Rene',
We have a new foreign neighbor who I can get along so well. Hopefully, you still wanna
know what we have talked. She's a writer and would like to know more about Thailand. One
day, she came over to my house and she said...
"English books on Thai history and culture are rather
rare."
"I have a lot of English books on Buddhism. Aren't you
interested in them?"
"Actually, it's my intention to study Buddhism after I have
finished reading books on Thai history and culture."
"I think that you will understand Thai culture and tradition
better if you understand Buddhism...
...Moreover, when we read the Scripture, we can learn several particular fields apart from
the doctrines."
"Can we? What are they?"
"From the Scripture, we can learn biology, history, geography,
nature of the world and universe, and so on."
"Is that so?"
"Yes. Let me take some examples on biology. In His preaching on
the birth of creatures, Lord Buddha classified it into four kinds,...
...namely, womb-born creatures, egg-born creatures, putrescene-born creatures, and
spontaneously born creatures."
"Does all this knowledge correspond with that of modern
biology?"
"According to the biological texts, the modern biologists or
scientists only know about the first three kinds but they have no information about the
last ones."
"Spontaneously born creatures, what are they like? Are they
ghosts?"
"Yes. In fact, the creatures in this group include brahma gods,
deities, hungry ghosts, demons, and the living begins in the states of woe."
"Can they be seen?"
"Yes. But with the divine eyes not human eyes."
"So we ...er.. I can never seen them?"
"Yes. If you have got divine eyes."
"How can I acquire them?"
"You must study Buddhism and practice it strictly."
"You must be pulling my leg!"
"No, no, of course not. the gift of Dhamma excels all other
gifts. That would I gain by deceit?"
What do you think about the divine eyes, little Rene'?? :) I gotta go now...bye
Love always,
Sister Zasha
